Excavation

Adam Mazur and his brother Dick are great people.  They are easy to talk with.  They listen to what we say and make suggestions to help us choose the best use the land.  They incorporate some of our ideas into the work they need to do.  Today they are working to make a gentle path to the back of our property.  We told them about our grandchildren and how we plan to make walking paths.  We mentioned that a few weeks ago, but they didn’t forget.  Today they started making an access to the path.  That is for the summer time.  Adam and Steve are also talking about a sledding path for the kids to enjoy.  The possibilities are endless.  Click on the picture below to see more photos.

The Foundation

Filed under: Articles — admin @ 8:39 pm

The Logix blocks are all in place.  The walls are reinforced.  The rebar is set into the Logix blocks.  Now it is time for the concrete to be placed in the Insulated Concrete Forms.  Today we met the Logix distributor, Kent Ruesswick whose website is www.nhicf.net.  We talked about the Logix blocks.  They are made of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), the same material used to make insulated coffee cups.  After the concrete is placed in the blocks, the foundation will have an factor of R24.  Kent says the colder it is outside, the better the product preforms.

Today the concrete was pumped into the Logix block foundation.

The well

Filed under: Articles — admin @ 8:19 pm

A well is necessary when living in the country. Yesterday we watched the well being drilled. From our vantage point - we have to stay out of the way - there was not a lot of action to see. It is sort of like watching paint dry. The well came in at 560 feet down.

Violette found the well site.

More progress! The frost wall has been placed!

Filed under: Articles — admin @ 5:18 pm

Our builders have finished placing the frost wall. The concrete has been poured (placed) into the ICF blocks by Cullen Concrete Form Company.

Our well company, Contookcock Artesian Well Company, has been here to see where to dig for a well.

Next step is to finish the foundation and slab before our SIP (Structured Insulated Panels) are installed. These panels form the walls and the roof of our home.
